Baby Blues

Short story short, Smock makes pretty, pretty letterpress things, and they put some of these pretty, pretty letterpress things in pretty, pretty boxes that were given to Alt attendees.  I've been sort of obsessed with this color combination lately, and having this box around was the final push I needed to make this quilt:
When I was done, I decided I would never make any other type of quilt ever again because 6 inch stripes?  SO EASY.  Normally I sort of hate the tedium of quilting, but this was seriously stitch, stitch, DONE, and I support projects that come together quickly. And ones that involve gradients of color.

Incidentally, what if I can't bring myself to give this away to its intended recipient?  What if I keep it?  What if I find out I'm having a girl and still keep it?

  1. ahh! i love stripe quilts for the simplicity too. i made one for robbie when we were dating and i started feeling too ambitious about quilting because i realized other kinds were harder. what does the back look like?

  2. it's just gray like the binding on the back....with lighter gray bobbin thread so you can see the quilted rectangles. i guess it would have made sense to take a picture...

  6. Ahh, you have a new follower. Your blog is so pretty. I really enjoyed reading your first post. My head (and heart, I suppose) was saying YES! And, EXACTLY! I just may have to start the blog that has been ongoing in my head.

The quilt is Georgous! And, I tell my kindergarteners all the time.... Blue is a girl color, too.

  7. thanks, everyone!

kersey...i'm actually thinking about it, but i don't know if people are willing to pay what handmade quilts are worth, you know? it's tough.

amourette and jessica....don't worry, i love blue! and i'm definitely not a 'blue is a boy color' person, but i'm definitely a 'blue baby blankets are for boy babies' person. :) my daughter got called a boy all the time anyway, though...even with pink stuff, so maybe i'll go with blue this time, haha. and jessica...blog away! thanks for the nice comment.

  9. marianne....sometimes i think creating is just glorified copying. i'm probably not the first person to do this. i'd love to see your quilt if you make it!
