See, this year I've become totally converted to painting. Carving is always fun, in theory. But then you start cleaning out your pumpkin and it starts to seem like a worse and worse idea. By the time you're ready to start carving, you're already worn out. And the execution never works quite like you want. Mine always end up looking like a 5-year-old carved them with a pencil. Then there's lots of negative self-talk, and who needs that?
Not me.
But I can always use some glitter. And pumpkins that last a long time instead of rotting and collapsing on the porch. So that's what I got. We can't stop! I just keep buying more pumpkins, and we keep spending more afternoons decorating them.
And kids can do their own without help. Can your carving knife say that? (The grass is a "nest" she built for her pumpkin...obviously.)
Puff paint, glitter, leftover housepaint, gold spray paint---all good things to use.
When you're done, revel in the fact that you can keep them out after Halloween!
I love that idea! Especially since the slimy, yucky carving part of Halloween is my least favorite part of my least favorite holiday. But I do love pumpkins!
ReplyDeletemirjam...that's exactly how i felt! now i like halloween a little bit more since i've decorated with decidedly non-halloween themed pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteThey look fantastic!
ReplyDeletelove them! totally planned on doing some pumpkin painting as well with tape and house paint... but I'm so inspired by your gold!
ReplyDeleteHalloween will never be the same again—now that I know what a little gold spray paint and glitter glue can do. Genius.
ReplyDeleteThese are very great, but a good carved pumpkin is also really great. To me, this is like tofu: super delicious, but not a replacement meat. Just something else wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI hope you aren't offended by me comparing these to tofu, I am aware it is considered boring, but I really like it, so when I say tofu it is a good word.
noah...the problem is that MY carved pumpkins are rarely great. :) but i agree...carve away!
