Home From the Holidays

Hello, again!  Remember me? That blogger who posts sometimes?  I won't apologize--we were busy saying goodbye to 2011 in Texas with family, and we couldn't have had a better time.
Highlights included our baby getting his first tooth without a sleepless night or a single bit of fussiness, almost missing our flight home because that same baby had a blowout at the airport that left poop from his chest down to his calves (he can't be all perfect), really almost missing our flight because someone forgot she was carrying homemade laundry detergent in her purse. Yes, I tried to take a jar of white powder on an airplane.  Brilliant, eh? With true Christmas spirit we ran through the airport, Home-Alone-style.

Then there was this awesome bridge/overpass thingy in San Antonio that was sporting hexagons. I wanted to take it home with me.
I do love hexagons these days.
Now we're back at home consoling our daughter who misses her cousins, trying to absorb lovely Christmas gifts (more on those in the coming days), and planning great things for 2012.  Let's make it fantastic, shall we?

  2. waitwaitwait...were you really in San Antonio? I wish I would have known! I hope you went to Rudy's and Taco Taco and to the farmer's market at the Pearl Brewery. And the Riverwalk of course. :)

I've totally had the epic baby blowout happen to me, too. Mine was at Target. Poop from baby's armpits to ankles (front and back) and I had two wipes with me. Enter: the paper towel wipe-down. Not recommended.

Those overpasses are awesome. There is one on my drive to Costco and The Forum and it is always a highlight of the trip!

  3. Ha, white powder at an airport! (That's absolutely something I'd do!).

  4. crystal...we could have done all that stuff together! we drove down from dallas so my husband's parents could take all the grandkids to seaworld, which was way more fun than i was expecting, and the kiddos never stopped smiling. so we did that and the zoo...none of the cool-sounding stuff you mentioned! though the zoo was really beautiful. and i'm still missing the weather y'all have down there...it was so perfect. almost makes up for the killer summers.

naomi...i forgot to mention the water bottle i had too. it was glass, so the guy was super confused. he asked what it was. i said water. then he looked bewildered and said, "what's it for?" um...drinking...is that unusual?

  5. Ha! I've lived here for 3.5 years and have only been to the zoo twice, one of the times being last Friday. So funny if our paths would have crossed!

  6. Oh, the water! They don't like it do they? Five years ago we visited with all our children and had quite the ordeal at our stopover in Chicago. As we were coming in to land one child had a horrific nose bleed while the other woke up and vomited repeatedly. He continued to be sick in the extremely long immigration queue (so glad I nabbed a few sick bags while exiting the plane!) where a grumpy guard with a gun told me we'd not get any special treatment after he let two mums with newborns through. At security my almost two year old was drinking his water and had to empty it, despite my offer to drink from it to prove its safety. He was very distressed at having it taken from him! He then had to remove his shoes (horror!) and walk through the security gate on his own! Have you tried to tear a hysterical child from you and make him walk through a gate without you? FUN! I also set off every alarm I pass through at airports. Every time. I get either a pat down or a hand wand...which ALWAYS bleeps around my cleavage! After going through our third security check of the journey I realised that in our haste to unload a heavy suitcase into a carry on bag back in England I had put my washbag full of liquids and sharp objects into our carry on! It had been through 3 x-ray machines and not been picked up for containing dangerous items! Oh the joys of airports!
