Weekend Report: A Headboard, Finally

I've been sleeping in this bed for six years now.  I've been sleeping in this bed for just as many years with no headboard. First-world problem, I know.  But that's six years of leaning against the wall to read or watch a show or let the laptop cook my lap. Saturday night, I decided I'd had enough.  Well, I'd had enough many times before, but Saturday was when this non-executing girl got around to doing something about it.  Here's what I did, in case you want to try it:  I went to Home Depot and bought a $20 foam camping mat, cut it to size (the light in my room was burned out, so I measured in the dark, leaving the foam a few inches off, but I'm taking what I can get), wrapped it in a $12 canvas drop cloth (no joke...I just wrapped it like a present and secured it at the back with duct tape...winning!), and painted triangles on half of it while watching Project Runway in the middle of the night.

The next day, I sat staring at the wall for a while, trying to decide what to hang above the bed that would look good and not fall of and kill me if there is an earthquake (it's a thing).  This room is annoying because the window overlaps with the bed, so it's hard to hang stuff above it.  Centering art generally looks weird.  So I figured I might as well keep going with the triangles (paper this time....not paint), and I love it. Then I took pictures on a grey day, so forgive the lackluster photos.  I hate it when people say that.  Pretend I didn't. And pretend I set my white balance correctly.
Here's where we enter the choose-your-own-adventure part of the post.  See, I prefer my slouchy, wrinkly white bed with a giant stuffed bass on it because it's funny. And I like to fight with my kids over it. "No, it's mommy's stuffed animal." They look at me like I'm nuts. You might think I'm nuts too.  If so, just skip to the next picture.
Here we have Blue Pillow Bed for those of you who prefer a pop of color.
Here's a shot for those of you who really want to draw attention to every wrinkle on the bed. Clean and simple. Let's not talk about how my baby broke my bedside lamp that was beautiful and matchy.
But I like the fish best. And the headboard.

  1. You are awesome. I absolutely love the black triangles. It took me a second to realize you'd painted them on the wall too. Brilliant! I love the fish pillow too.

  2. I have owned that very same fish pillow for seven years. Cabella's. Ours was named "the Honor Cod."

  4. Beautiful. I've been grappling with the same first-world problem lately too. And my vote definitely goes for the oversized fish. Well done.

  5. Love the headboard and the triangles. People like you (creative people) make people like me (non-creative people) feel woefully boring. But I do feel inspired. I need a headboard too and I think this might just be the ticket. Question: how did you attach it to the wall/bed?

    Also, I like the fish.

    2. I am super lazy too. I'm so glad I am not the only one... That makes it doubly easy. Perhaps I will have a surprise ready for when Dave gets home from his father/son campout tomorrow....

  7. Omigosh you put the triangles all the way up to the ceiling? Pretty much a creative genius. Also love your giant delicious bass. It was fun seeing this one happening late at night on IG.

  9. Thank you for a good laugh, I really enjoyed your post! Your writing is fun, I love the easy-to-make headboard with the triangels continuing on the wall (I might steal your idea actually) and the big stuffed fish would have fit perfectly in to my Daily dose of quirkiness if my blog was active (taking a break).

I started to follow you recently and still doesn't know your blog so well, but this tells me I love your humour :-)

  10. I just came over to your blog from Dana's link and caught sight of this post. The bass caught my eye first (my husband is a bass fisherman, ha) and then the description of your easy headboard had me hooked. Wow, that is SO clever. Do you mind if I use your idea? If I do I'll blog about it and link you up :)
